The Management of the Dunholme Old School is applying for a Lottery Grant from the Big Lottery Fund under the Community Buildings Programme for the Dunholme Old School.

This will be the forth time that they  have submitted such an application and, although two failed the third one to actually purchase the Old School was successful. The idea would be to turn the old school into a community arts and learning centre.

The  proposal to the lottery fund will be to build at the rear of the main building a theatre of about 150 seats that will be tiered but able to be folded back against the back wall to give greater floor space. This extension will also have additional rooms for lectures, meetings or storage.  Incorporated in the plan will be a lounge cum cafeteria with a larger kitchen and additional toilets.

This will certainly involve all the dramatic, music, dancing and photographic groups that could call this place their ‘home’ whereby costumes and scenery could be stored as well as a base for teaching and performing.

This is just the first stage; if successful we just go to the next stage of selection. There can be up to four stages each requiring more details and justification by us on why we need it. After this will come the really had work of putting it all together.  I am already contacting architects to get advice on the feasibility of building what we require in the space available.

John Ritchie

Chairman DOSC

We have now learnt that we were unsuccessful with our application for funding from the Big Lottery Fund. This was apparently because we did not show a strong enought case for the need of the extra facilities.
The real reason of course is that we are midddle England and considered not to be socially or economically disadvantaged.

We have now applied to the County Council for a Community Grant but that is just to replace the roof on the Traning Building thats leaking like a sieve

DUNHOLME CAMERA CLUB

March already and up come the daffodils. The bloom is showing on some trees so make sure you get the cameras out and capture those great fresh spring colours!!

Last month we had our first workshop of the year which was well attended and the members went away with the knowledge they need to progress their photos during 2008. This has led us to another workshop; more of that later but first meeting in March will be on the 6th March and will be the Lincolnshire Photographic Portfolio. This consists of a selection of images from the Member Clubs of the L.P.A. We have the opportunity to view the images and judge what we at Dunholme Camera Club believe to be the best. This result is then recorded and goes towards a final winner later in the year so come along and see what types of pictures the other cubs in the county produce.

Now on to our 2nd Workshop of the year. These meetings are for the benefit of the members of the club and any of you who would like to come along and gain knowledge from one of our workshops throughout the year. The meeting on the 20th March will show how to compose your pictures to get the best from the scene in front of you whether it is a still life or a landscape. As you look through the lens of the camera make sure that you are making the most of what you wiLl get and to make sure that you are doing it correctly come and see us on the 20th for more ideas.
